LOVE ME LOVE MY OFFICIAL SHORT CLONE..

This interview completed by The Official Short Clone to Paul Giovanni £rd might shed some light....

OSCOPG: So, who are you?? What do you do?? And what's with all the attitude AND THE BIRGHT FUCKING COLOURS??

PG£: I'm an exciting and free writer of the moment, I sometimes play with music, meanwhile, I like to LIVE life to the absolute full every which way - hence the colours...

OSCOPG: Those are some grand claims..

PG£: I'm about delivery..

OSCOPG: What do you write about??

PG£: I've recently been distracted into writing about music, and to a more limited degree, sport. But fundamentally, I'm purely interested in writing about the substance of life: pain, love, power, death, birth, re-birth, passion, obsession, joy, frustration, having and not having...

OSCOPG: So what do you think makes you over and above the million and one other wanna be writers who clog up the internet with blogs..?

PG£: I'm a good writer. I write with complete freedom. I take huge risks to do things as they should be done. I have talent. I work hard. I have conviction and believe in myself...

OSCOPG: Why wr-

PG£: And I'm not a quitter...

OSCOPG: You say, you've been writing about music - why??

PG£: Well, I say I've been writing about music, but I'm a lover of a good diversion. So much of the music writing says very little about music at all. Instead it covers a whole load more about more divergent things of no real relevance to music or musicians...

OSCOPG: Will you still be writing about music in 6 years time and appearing on those nostalgia '100 BEST POP MOMENTS' shows being all bitter and grumpy??

PG£: That's very unlikely. Music writing works for now - it provides a framework - a spine. Music is too big a part of things to ever be ignored - but my music writing career will end any day now, in fact it's probably already over...

OSCOPG: So, what music do you actually like to write about?

PG£: Good music..

OSCOPG: Like what..?? Give me some names..?

PG£: Anything that has beauty, soul, cleverness, style and integrity - also anything that sounds good that doesn't have any of the above....

OSCOPG: What do you think gives you the authority to write about music??

PG£: I have no authority - you can only take, and trust your own authority when writing about anything. .I have opinions, I say them with style and that's about the size of it...

OSCOPG: What do you say to those who'd say you're nothing as a writer unless you're published in The NME or another more conventional and well known magazine??

PG£: I often find that 'Name' magazines give you a bigger profile quicker, but writing should always be done on your terms, or else you risk becoming an aimless and boring staff writer and loosing your individual way.

At this point in time, I therefore don't feel the need to work with bigger mags unless I can dictate the terms to the letter...

Some would say this means a cover for my not being good enough. But I'm completely certain my work's better than most of what you get from well paid writers in 'proper' writing jobs..

OSGOPG: So, this is why you write blogs and exclusive online content for paulgiovanni.com. Why not just send your stuff out to other bigger magazines and papers as well and cover all bases??

PG£: When writing, the first thing you need to do is to get your voice and your style honed right down.

This takes a long while, and when you're doing it you make lots of stupid and basic mistakes.

I'm still a good 10 or 15 years off my written peak, so I'd rather makes these mistakes in my own time and space and keep my voice close to hand.

With regards to small and indpendent magazines: I find they're very often run and owned by competing writers and/or failed writers - they're also often very closed shops..

Basically, you get a lot of jealous wannabees and never gonnabees who like to take pot shots at your work to make themselves feel better, to make you read more like they write, and/or to damage your VROOOMMM!!!!!

Why I should tolerate competing writers and amateur editors tearing up and cajouling my work, when the readers, can do that minus the agenda?? Why should I suffer a silly ego burising from other 2 bit writers, when I my readers can bruise my own silly ego without any help whatsoever??

Sure, when the only possible exit for young writers was printed collections, I'd have had no choice but to compromise and collaborate a little more with 'the underground', but now such limitations don't exist, and with a broadband connection, a few promo hours a day and good strategic alliances, you can make your own wide and clever audience, who don't agree with the antiquated rationale of time and space editing...

OSC0PG: So, basically, it's all their fault??

Well, I can be a complete ego ass to work with, and that can and has caused problems with magazines. Things is, I find it close to impossible to get on with other writers and editors who aren't concentrating on the job. I never fit into the cliches. I don't like the fact I'm not the center of attention, and I don;t like shoddy work. Nowadays, II no longer bother trying to ingratiate myself and instead I get on with the work..

OSCOPG: You love yourself don't you??

PG£: Of course...

OSCOPG: Why do you boast and SHOUT?? You seem to think you're very important..

PG£: If I had a mainstream or even minor deal, people would be paid to tell the world how good I am, and no-one would think that strange...

OSCOPG: But surely that's important - that it's someone else doing the boasting - someone who knows what they're talking about. You doing it makes you sound corrupt, stupid or an egomaniac..

PG£: I have plenty of people affirming my work - all are strangers, but yes, I'm completely corrupt. I think I'm the only one who's important. Every writer feels the same way. I'm an egomaniac by nature. Why else would i put myself forward as a writer??

OSCOPG: Ideally you'd like a mainstream publishing deal though, wouldn't you?!?

PG£: I was RED HOT MAD for one a while back, but now I'm not so bothered unless it's on my terms.

The problem is, todays publishers are only interested in money and sensationalism, whereas I'm only interested in good writing, love, longevity and adoration.

Doing things as I do them now gives me complete access to a wide readership without contracts, excessive compromise and unsatisfying royalty payments..

OSCOPG: What's with the fish??

PG£: Fish are the Official Creature to Paul Giovanni £rd: I live on Fish Island, I often stand around with my mouth open, and I like to eat them..

OSCOPG: What can the reader of Paul Pious Giovanni £rd expect now and in the future??

PG£: Suprises..

OSCOPG: Are blogs and online publishing the future of journalism and writing??

PG£: Good, well worked and honest writing is the future of journalism and writing..

OSCOPG: What else do you want to write about??

PG£: I only ever write about turns me on when I wake up in the morning..

OSCOPG: Thanks for your time

PG£: Thank you...
